DESCRIPTION:Come tour CA’s Adult Program residence and speak with the staff and residents about the program.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nMany adults with autism spectrum disorder and related needs want to move out of their parents’ home but don’t know where to begin. Their parents are equally anxious for them to be independent. CA’s transition program equips clients with the skills they need to eventually live independently with just a little bit of support. \nWe coach\, support and encourage our clients\, helping them begin the transition to independence. \nOur residential program offers transitional housing for adults with autism and related needs who are interested in developing the life skills necessary to live on their own. The length of stay varies with each resident\, their skill level and goals. The ultimate goal of this program is for participants to move into their own apartment with just a little bit of ongoing support. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, November 10 from 5:00-7:00pm at CA’s Adult Program Residence\, learn about the process and what we have to offer. Come for the whole two hours to socialize or just long enough to ask your questions and tour the house! CA staff and current residents will be on site to answer your questions. \nCA will be providing light refreshments.

SUMMARY:Preschool Inclusion Information Webinar
DESCRIPTION:CA Human Services strives to fill service gaps for Virginians with autism of all ages. Parents of young children with autism frequently report issues finding a preschool program for their child that can accommodate the specific needs and behavioral concerns of their child. CA Human Services is looking to partner with preschools in Virginia to create an inclusive environment where children with autism can develop and learn alongside their neurotypical peers. This program taps into additional funding streams previously inaccessible to professionals to cover the cost of the resources needed to sustain inclusivity in the classroom. Grant funding is available to cover start-up costs\, and CA seeks to partner with these preschools to provide consultative assistance while the inclusivity program is undergoing initial implementation. By accessing funding previously unutilized\, CA can help preschools expand their services and recruit additional students. \n  \nAny individual interested in learning more about this partnership\, or interested in implementing it in their preschool program should attend this virtual webinar to gain more information. The webinar will cover program basics\, costs\, hiring requirements\, and funding. Time will be allotted at the end of the webinar for a Q&A session. We hope to see you there!

The lengthy Q & A discussion offered many opportunities for family members to express their concerns to the invited leaders of DBHDS\, Region Ten\, Faison Center\, and VIA. It was a positive exchange of ideas and suggestions. Senator Deeds was a good listener and very engaged throughout all aspects of the discussion. Region Ten’s Lisa Beitz and Heather Hines\, Executive Director and Senior Director of Adult Developmental Services respectively\, spoke next. The lengthy Q & A discussion offered many opportunities for family members to express their concerns to the invited leaders of DBHDS\, Region Ten\, Faison Center\, and VIA. It was a positive exchange of ideas and suggestions. Senator Deeds was a good listener and very engaged throughout all aspects of the discussion. Senator Deeds’ time was very much appreciated by all.\n\n\n  \n\n\nAt the upcoming October 27th CRAAG meeting\, Bob Kreps will present his introductory slides from the Deeds’ meeting. DESCRIPTION:The 5th NSSSC conference will highlight the causes and solutions that will keep our schools safe. \n  \nIt is the fifth national event to invite leaders representing every sector of society to model a community process to help stamp out all forms of school violence\, including shootings\, bullying\, dating violence\, vandalism\, gang activity\, and catastrophic events such as school massacres. \n  \nIn addition\, special workshops will examine the latest community resources to fight teenage suicide\, alcohol and drug abuse\, and aggressive driving among high school and college students. The all-day workshop will also include an important hands-on feature– real world simulations of community response to school shootings and related tragedies. DESCRIPTION:CA Human Services strives to fill service gaps for Virginians with autism of all ages. Parents of young children with autism frequently report issues finding a preschool program for their child that can accommodate the specific needs and behavioral concerns of their child. CA Human Services is looking to partner with preschools in Virginia to create an inclusive environment where children with autism can develop and learn alongside their neurotypical peers. This program taps into additional funding streams previously inaccessible to professionals to cover the cost of the resources needed to sustain inclusivity in the classroom. Grant funding is available to cover start-up costs\, and CA seeks to partner with these preschools to provide consultative assistance while the inclusivity program is undergoing initial implementation. By accessing funding previously unutilized\, CA can help preschools expand their services and recruit additional students. \n  \nAny individual interested in learning more about this partnership\, or interested in implementing it in their preschool program should attend this virtual webinar to gain more information. DESCRIPTION:Come tour CA’s Adult Program residence and speak with the staff and residents about the program.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nMany adults with autism spectrum disorder and related needs want to move out of their parents’ home but don’t know where to begin. Their parents are equally anxious for them to be independent. CA’s transition program equips clients with the skills they need to eventually live independently with just a little bit of support. \nWe coach\, support and encourage our clients\, helping them begin the transition to independence. \nOur residential program offers transitional housing for adults with autism and related needs who are interested in developing the life skills necessary to live on their own. The length of stay varies with each resident\, their skill level and goals. The ultimate goal of this program is for participants to move into their own apartment with just a little bit of ongoing support. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, September 29 from 5:00-7:00pm at CA’s Adult Program Residence\, learn about the process and what we have to offer. Come for the whole two hours to socialize or just long enough to ask your questions and tour the house! CA staff and current residents will be on site to answer your questions. \nCA will be providing light refreshments. \n\nCA’s COVID Response: \nIn order to safely conduct the open-house\, CA will require guests to wear a mask while inside the residency. If you or someone in your party has been exhibiting symptoms of COVID\, we ask that you do not attend this open house and schedule a tour at a later date when symptoms are no longer present. \n  \n\n\nNot from Richmond\, Virginia? Since our humble beginnings around a kitchen table\, we’ve grown to an organization with a budget of $3.7 million. \nIt’s an exciting time at CA. We’re doing things differently. In order to amplify our impact we work in both the public and private sectors. And although we provide some direct services\, we concentrate on reimagining human services systems. The Community Health Worker service model originated in other parts of the world and has been growing in pockets throughout the US\, including here in Virginia.  It may be the model that will work best for reaching those who you know need your service\, but somehow have not made it through your doors.  This session will explore techniques for reaching into underserved populations by tapping into Community Health Workers who are connected to those communities.  CHW’s come with a variety of experience\, backgrounds\, diverse culture\, language\, gender identities\, and most importantly the credibility to reach underserved communities because they are part of those same communities.  The session content will include networking to recruit CHW’s\, crafting a job description\, training\, partnerships with those already using CHW’s and equitable compensation.\n\n4:00-5:00pm: Inclusive Recruitment & Retention Strategies (Inclusive & Equitable Care Track) with Jacquie Johnson\, Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities \n\nCreating an inclusive workplace culture goes beyond having a non-discrimination policy and one or two employees who reflect different identities. In this workshop\, participants consider how to cultivate workplace climates that support recruitment and retention of employees from all backgrounds to feel welcomed and to thrive.

DESCRIPTION:8:00-8:45pm: Legislative Outlook: Impact of the Election with Dr. Quentin Kidd Dean\, College of Social Sciences; Academic Director of the Judy Ford Wason Center for Public Policy with Christopher Newport University \nThis November’s election will determine several key positions in Virginia including Governor\, Lieutenant Governor\, Attorney General\, and seats in Virginia’s House of Delegates. Dr. Quentin Kidd will provide attendees with a legislative overview following the election and provide meaningful insights into its potential impact. \n\n9:00-10:00am: Telehealth Beyond the Pandemic: Access and Equity (Telehealth) with Kathy Wibberly\, Mid-Atlantic Telehealth Resource Center \n\nMany clinics and providers ventured into telehealth out of necessity as a result of the pandemic.  For many\, telehealth served as a powerful tool for reducing exposure\, extending the workforce\, increasing access and decreasing isolation for some of the most marginalized populations.  For some\, however\, telehealth only served to punctuate the social determinants of health that contribute to health inequities; these include things like access to broadband\, access to telehealth-capable devices and digital literacy.  This session will look at how we can take this powerful tool and integrate it within our in-person clinics and practices as we (albeit slowly) move beyond the pandemic.  We will also look at free and low-cost resources as well as creative solutions for addressing some of the contributors to telehealth inequity.\n\n12:00-1:00pm: Introduction to Lackey Virtual Clinic (Telehealth Track) with Larry Trumbore & Jill Cottel\, Lackey Clinic \n\nThe COVID-19 pandemic has been a catalyst for change especially around telehealth. The silver lining is two-fold for Lackey Clinic and their patients. On the patient side\, virtual visits circumvented many of the issues patients had previously that limit medical treatment including transportation\, time off from work\, childcare\, language barriers\, risk of exposure\, wait time to receive care\, and inconvenience. On the clinic side\, Lackey benefited from reduced cancellation and no-shows\, enhancement in appointment length\, efficiency of care delivery\, patient accessibility\, and reduced exposure. Join to learn more about Lackey’s vision is to leverage telehealth and other technologies to increase access to care\, coverage\, and capacity.\n\n1:30-3:00pm: Board Meeting (Board Members Only) \n4:00-5:00pm: Telehealth in the Free and Charitable Clinic Sector (Telehealth Track) with Mara Servaites\, Virginia Telehealth Network \n\nTelehealth came bursting onto the healthcare landscape with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 forcing all health care providers to adjust and modify services.  Eighteen months later\, the free and charitable clinic sector is determining how to fit telehealth into their regular service offerings for the long-term.  This session will focus on regulatory and law changes during the pandemic that can impact telehealth services provided by the sector.  An overview of innovative telehealth programs and service lines from free and charitable clinics throughout the country will also be provided.

Tips on How to Make Dental Work (Hybrid Track) with Dr. Christina Byerson\, CAHN \n\nA comprehensive dental benefit went into effect on July 1 for expanded adult Medicaid. This session will take a deep dive into the nuts and bolts of setting up an effective and efficient dental services.
