SUMMARY:Annual Conference
DESCRIPTION:9:00-10:00am: Real Conversation with Major Donors (Development Track) with Abby Weber\, The Curtis Group \n\nWondering what you could and should be doing today to prepare for a stronger major gift program tomorrow? Even during times of uncertainty\, the fundraising cycle works – cultivation\, solicitation\, and stewardship – but what does this cycle look like in practice? How do you interact with major donors at each phase? This interactive session will show you the proven steps to have meaningful conversations and build stronger relationships with your donors by keeping them engaged and properly setting expectations.\n\n12:00-1:00pm: Marketing Isn’t About Money: Improving Customer Services & the Patient Experience (Outreach Track) with Jeff Stern\, Sinclair Health Center \n\nIn early 2020 Sinclair Health Clinic was experiencing some of the lowest active patient numbers in its 30+ year history. As the Clinic worked to remain open during the pandemic\, it shifted its marketing focus. In the 18 months that followed\, Sinclair registered more new patients than it had since it began keeping digital records. Spending money wasn’t how it found new patients. Jeff Stern\, Director of Community Outreach with Sinclair Health Clinic\, discusses his marketing strategy and shares thoughts and concepts to help your organization find new patients.\n\n4:00-5:00pm: Creating a Sense of Belonging (Inclusive & Equitable Care Track) with Jacquie Johnson\, Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities \n\nWe all want to belong. Having a sense of belonging helps us feel socially connected and makes each of us better able to reach our full potential. But what does that look like in the workplace? Belonging is a key component of our D&I initiatives and helps employees feel valued\, noticed\, and cared for. Participants will engage in reflective and interactive exercises that will help them to understand ways to build belonging and create an inclusive workplace climate at their organizations.

We’re still passionate about serving people with Autism\, but our mission has expanded to include systems level work for all types of developmental disabilities. Since our humble beginnings around a kitchen table\, we’ve grown to an organization with a budget of $3.7 million. \nIt’s an exciting time at CA. We’re doing things differently. In order to amplify our impact we work in both the public and private sectors. And although we provide some direct services\, we concentrate on reimagining human services systems. We focus on: \n-Identifying gaps\, building awareness\, and creating a vision for improving systems. \n-Educating\, training and supporting our communities. \n-Modeling and replicating best practices and services in inclusive settings. \nThis systems change work often takes longer\, but it can be transformational\, and that’s why we’re here. Every day\, we work toward a future where the most vulnerable Virginians of all ages can participate in every aspect of our community and realize their full potential.

SUMMARY:Annual Conference
DESCRIPTION:9:00-10:00am: Building Fundraising Capacity: Working Smarter & Not Harder (Development Track) with Victoria Dietz\, The Curtis Group \n\nHow should you be using your time today\, so you can raise more dollars tomorrow? Or to use that old cliché\, how do we work smarter and not harder? In this session\, attendees will learn how fundraisers can manage their time\, set realistic goals and focus on building meaningful donor relationships. Content will center on using data effectively\, tracking and reporting activity\, accountability\, appointment setting\, and time management. This interactive session will explore these topics and share practical and applicable tips that will improve your donor cultivation\, solicitation and stewardship metrics\, and ultimately increase your dollars raised.\n\n12:00-1:00pm: Outreach to Underserved Populations: Tapping Community Health Workers (Outreach Track) with Karen Legato\, Health Brigade \n\nSafety net clinics are often searching for ways to reach the underserved populations in their area who may or may not know about their services. The Community Health Worker service model originated in other parts of the world and has been growing in pockets throughout the US\, including here in Virginia. It may be the model that will work best for reaching those who you know need your service\, but somehow have not made it through your doors. This session will explore techniques for reaching into underserved populations by tapping into Community Health Workers who are connected to those communities. CHW’s come with a variety of experience\, backgrounds\, diverse culture\, language\, gender identities\, and most importantly the credibility to reach underserved communities because they are part of those same communities. The session content will include networking to recruit CHW’s\, crafting a job description\, training\, partnerships with those already using CHW’s and equitable compensation.\n\n4:00-5:00pm: Inclusive Recruitment & Retention Strategies (Inclusive & Equitable Care Track) with Jacquie Johnson\, Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities \n\nCreating an inclusive workplace culture goes beyond having a non-discrimination policy and one or two employees who reflect different identities. In this workshop\, participants consider how to cultivate workplace climates that support recruitment and retention of employees from all backgrounds to feel welcomed and to thrive.

SUMMARY:Annual Conference
DESCRIPTION:8:00-8:45pm: Legislative Outlook: Impact of the Election with Dr. Quentin Kidd Dean\, College of Social Sciences; Academic Director of the Judy Ford Wason Center for Public Policy with Christopher Newport University \nThis November’s election will determine several key positions in Virginia including Governor\, Lieutenant Governor\, Attorney General\, and seats in Virginia’s House of Delegates. Dr. Quentin Kidd will provide attendees with a legislative overview following the election and provide meaningful insights into its potential impact. \n\n9:00-10:00am: Telehealth Beyond the Pandemic: Access and Equity (Telehealth) with Kathy Wibberly\, Mid-Atlantic Telehealth Resource Center \n\nMany clinics and providers ventured into telehealth out of necessity as a result of the pandemic. For many\, telehealth served as a powerful tool for reducing exposure\, extending the workforce\, increasing access and decreasing isolation for some of the most marginalized populations. For some\, however\, telehealth only served to punctuate the social determinants of health that contribute to health inequities; these include things like access to broadband\, access to telehealth-capable devices and digital literacy. This session will look at how we can take this powerful tool and integrate it within our in-person clinics and practices as we (albeit slowly) move beyond the pandemic. We will also look at free and low-cost resources as well as creative solutions for addressing some of the contributors to telehealth inequity.\n\n12:00-1:00pm: Introduction to Lackey Virtual Clinic (Telehealth Track) with Larry Trumbore & Jill Cottel\, Lackey Clinic \n\nThe COVID-19 pandemic has been a catalyst for change especially around telehealth. The silver lining is two-fold for Lackey Clinic and their patients. On the patient side\, virtual visits circumvented many of the issues patients had previously that limit medical treatment including transportation\, time off from work\, childcare\, language barriers\, risk of exposure\, wait time to receive care\, and inconvenience. On the clinic side\, Lackey benefited from reduced cancellation and no-shows\, enhancement in appointment length\, efficiency of care delivery\, patient accessibility\, and reduced exposure. Join to learn more about Lackey’s vision is to leverage telehealth and other technologies to increase access to care\, coverage\, and capacity.\n\n1:30-3:00pm: Board Meeting (Board Members Only) \n4:00-5:00pm: Telehealth in the Free and Charitable Clinic Sector (Telehealth Track) with Mara Servaites\, Virginia Telehealth Network \n\nTelehealth came bursting onto the healthcare landscape with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 forcing all health care providers to adjust and modify services. Eighteen months later\, the free and charitable clinic sector is determining how to fit telehealth into their regular service offerings for the long-term. This session will focus on regulatory and law changes during the pandemic that can impact telehealth services provided by the sector. An overview of innovative telehealth programs and service lines from free and charitable clinics throughout the country will also be provided.

SUMMARY:ADOS-2 Virtual Training
DESCRIPTION:Six. That’s the average age of diagnosis for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the Commonwealth of Virginia. And that’s a shame. Because a reliable diagnosis can be made as early as age two. And when it comes to diagnosing ASD\, the sooner\, the better. \nWe’re thrilled to have Noha Minshawi-Patterson\, Ph.D.\, HSPP leading this new\, progressive approach to teaching clinical professionals to diagnose autism using the second edition of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2 (ADOS-2). We recognize that confidence and expertise come from practice and experience\, so in addition to a three-day virtual workshop\, this program includes a follow-up booster coaching session. Virtual sessions will be held on Zoom. \nTraining starts on Wednesday\, October 20th t at 8:30 am. \nBecause referrals can cause lengthy delays\, being able to make the diagnosis yourself saves precious time. So\, we’ve designed this program for professionals on the front line— psychologists\, licensed professional counselors\, clinical social workers and speech pathologists— empowering you to intervene at the first suspicion of a developmental delay. \nUpon completion of the three-day workshop\, participants will be able to:\n• Describe the essential features\, and the advantages and disadvantages\, of the ADOS-2 as a measure of social communication and behavior. \n• Identify the variables that need to be considered in determining which module of the ADOS to use: mental age\, chronological age\, expressive language abilities \n• Select the appropriate module to administer for a given child \n• Describe the purpose of\, and the focus of observation for\, each of the tasks within each of the four modules \n• Understand the administration the tasks within each of the four modules \n• Discuss how to code the child’s language and communication\, reciprocal social interaction\, play\, stereotyped behaviors and restricted interests\, and other abnormal behaviors based on the child’s performance on tasks. \nBecause of the hands-on\, interactive nature of this workshop\, participation will be limited to 20 people. \nYou’ll learn to:\n• Explain the importance of early diagnosis and intervention to your colleagues and clients. \n• Use the ADOS-2 to diagnose autism spectrum disorders in clients as young as age two. \n• Explain testing results to clients and caregivers and refer them to support services. \n• Seek and provide support and guidance within a network of fellow practitioners. \nThis Training Program has multiple components to provide plenty of practice and reinforcement: \n– Three-day Instructor-Led Virtual Workshop (October 20\, 21\, & 22 / 8:30a-4:30p EST) \n– Small Group Booster Session (January 28 / 1:00p-4:00p EST) \nAt 3 months: Dr. Minshawi and participants will watch an ADOS administration video conducted by a participant or from training video archives. Dr. Minshawi will lead an interactive discussion on coding and provide participants with feedback on their scoring of the protocol. Format of these sessions will be individualized based on organization and participants’ needs and training goals. \nNOTES: \n\nRegistration will close on Friday\, October 15th at 12:00PM EST.\nIn order for training to take place\, there must be at least 10 registrants. \nParticipants will be provided with the 5-module protocols for the training and a certificate of attendance.\nParticipants must have their own copy of the ADOS-2 manual and a working camera/microphone in order to participate in the training.\nThere will be a break to allow time for lunch on your own.\n\nAbout Our Instructor: \nNoha Minshawi-Patterson\, Ph.D.\, HSPP is a licensed clinical psychologist and a certified independent ADOS-2 trainer. She has been on the faculty of Indiana University School of Medicine since 2007. Her clinical practice is focused on Applied Behavior Analysis and behavioral interventions for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)\, as well as the assessment and diagnosis of ASD and other childhood disorders. Dr. Minshawi-Patterson provides parent training in individually-designed behavioral interventions\, as well as training for students and professionals on the behavioral assessment\, diagnosis and treatment of ASD.
