Orientation Day: To Wear A Belt Or Suspenders, That Is The Question

“You can wear belts or suspenders, but you can’t wear a belt AND suspenders, because that’s a (fashion) crime.”

Sarah McCaig (Manager of the Career Readiness and Employment Program)

Orientation Day for the Career Readiness and Employment Program at Good Foods Grocery

Today, I sat in the back of the Good Foods Grocery café to be a part of orientation day for this current cohort of interns in the Career Readiness and Employment program. We started with introductions to store staff and, in turn, the store staff asked for the intern’s names. There were varying levels of enthusiasm to being put on the spot, but Keith, a store manager, brought a lot of energy and encouraged everyone to speak up as though they were speaking to customers at Good Foods!

The idea of working in the store set everyone on a different track for the day!

“I have to admit,” said one intern coyly, “I kind of like the idea of getting paid.”

Cheers to that!

As Sarah went through the internship handbook, several hands raised with questions like “Are crocs considered close-toed shoes?” and “Can I work more than the allotted two shifts per week?”

Once the questions died down, Sarah handed out aprons and pronoun pins for those that wanted them.

I can’t wait to see everyone at Good Foods!
