Commonwealth Autism Programs provide a variety of services designed to help adolescents and adults with autism develop the life skills and confidence they need to reach their full potential. All of our programs emphasize increasing independence in the following areas: Career exploration and development, Economic self-sufficiency, Community integration, Household responsibilities, Social competence, Personal care, Health and wellness.

Independent Living for Autistic Adults

Programs help autistic adults transition smoothly from their family home to an apartment or home of their own and to maintain their independence. Our following programs provide key insight into

Life Skills and Readiness Program

Our Life Skills and Readiness Program supports adults who live at home with family/supportive party and are motivated to gain more socials skills and independence. Typically, the path for this program is to transition autistic adolescents to a more independent living setting; a Commonwealth Autism coach provides up to 5 hours per week of 1:1 coaching in residential and independent living skills.

Career Readiness and Employment Program

Our Career Readiness and Employment program aims to solve the autistic unemployment and underemployment problem in Richmond. This program is an internship program that combines in-class hours and in-store working hours at Good Foods Grocery to teach autistic adults soft skills for job development.
