Hampton Roads Residential Services provides support and accommodations to adults with developmental disabilities in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our team of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) assist residents as-needed with daily meal preparation, hygiene needs, participation in community activities, medication management and completion of all outcomes outlined in their Individualized Service Plans (ISPs). These support services are intended to train and assist each resident in attaining the communication and functional skills necessary to live in their community and reach their maximum potential.
HRRS offers Community Engagement services to adults with developmental disabilities in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. This service is designed to support clients in accessing a variety of events and activities in their community and in developing the skills needed to participate in these interests.
How it works:
Clients start by choosing which days they want to participate in the program. The typical week runs from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (Monday – Friday), but this can be customized based on the interests and constraints of each client. Clients will then meet with our QDDP and Program Managers to develop a schedule of activities that they want to participate in. Some examples that past clients have chosen include: volunteering at local charities, participating in public events, maintaining relationships with family and friends, trips to the beach, restaurants, local shops, parks, libraries and community centers. Once a schedule has been determined, clients can begin meeting with one of our trained Direct Support Professionals to go out to their chosen activities and will be supported in developing the skills needed to participate in these activities as independently, as possible. Clients will be in a group no larger than three clients per Direct Support Professional.
Eligibility:
Individuals must be at least 18 years of age and receiving the Community Living Waiver from Medicaid. Please consult with your local Community Services Board if you are unsure of your waiver status.
